Like all machines with motors and engines, a generator needs to be maintained at regular intervals. Generac recommends that a generator should have the oil changed once every 2 years or every 200 hours if the ambient temperature does not drop below 40 degrees. If ambient temperature drops below 40 degrees, the oil should be changed every year or every 200 hours, whichever comes first.
